TCSJ Staff Spotlight: Anne Swehla-Garcia

As a student, life can get hard. Finding a balance between home life and work/school life can definitely be a challenge. I don’t think I’ve ever met a colleague that has said their studies have been a walk in the park. It helps to know that there are people in your corner.

I remember when I was a student in a larger university, oftentimes I felt as if I was just a body in a seat. In the system, I was just another number to the lecturer, just a random person in a sea of bodies.

The past few years have been hard. Majorly hard. COVID has just compounded that in so many ways. I remember feeling so overwhelmed and depressed last year because I just had so much going on in my personal life. I’ll never forget when I approached Anne, honestly I forget what I was asking for… all I remember is her seeing me. Actually seeing me. Noticing that I was struggling with things that went beyond TCSJ and beyond her responsibility to care about. She took the time to talk to me, to let me know that I wasn’t alone. I’ve never met a person like Anne. She truly CARES about the people she comes into contact with. She CARES about her students and wants them to be successful in ALL aspects of their lives, not just things that pertain to TCSJ. If you have a need, she is ready to do all that she can to help fulfill it. Really, I would have been lost in my struggle last year without her.

Thank you Anne. You are a blessing to us all.
